Good advertisement design has balance

“We wanted to concentrate on polished nickels and polished chromes to get that silver feel back in,” he says of the fixtures, hardware, and lighting by Kohler and Kallista. Hermogeno and designer Lynette Chin brought in a mix of vintage and new furnishings in the family room, incorporating performance fabrics for durability. “[We made] sure that it was a really usable room, that it didn’t just look nice,” Hermogeno says. Designer Rachel Scheff used the home’s spectacular ceiling, woodwork, and stained glass as the inspirations for her fanciful, flora- and fauna-filled foyer. “It was one of my favorite rooms in the house because it was the one that had the most history preserved, and I wanted to really celebrate that,” she told AD PRO.

Hand-painted floors were the jumping-off point for designer Amy Peltier’s soothing primary bedroom design. “It was so much work, but it turned out beautiful.” The firm wanted the space to feel “light and airy and breezy,” and incorporated fabrics and wall coverings by Thibaut in a soft color palette. Peltier and designer Marina Kelly installed an arch to divide the bedroom from the sitting area, breaking up the large space. Cozy Stylish Chic Creative Director Jeanne K. Chung and designers Angela Lee and Caroline Meloche brightened the dark wood-paneled library to create a space where residents can unplug. Wallpaper was added to the ceiling and the backs of the bookcases, and heavy wood blinds were replaced with soft draperies and Roman shades to make the space feel lighter.

The use of a single style of shirt keeps the message focused while at the same time providing the user with an interactive experience that imitates browsing an online store inside the ad. Video, Collection, and Carousel ads all allow you to show more than one product, or multiple aspects of a single product. This is a chance to really show off what you have to offer to your customers.

Illustrate a Message

As a result, they’ve now learned more about the product than they would have otherwise. It’s an evolutionary trait that allows us to anticipate what’s going to happen next and quickly react to it. That said, advertisements that are predictable only require a shred of thought to understand, so they’re too easy to grasp and, in turn, too boring to engage anyone. Part of that mission means encouraging people to be themselves.

Another seating area with views of the garden was designed for more intimate dining, games, or meetings, and it’s illuminated by a Murano glass chandelier. At the far end of the room, Levine installed a lush purple sofa with cocktail tables, creating the perfect spot for drinks, dessert, or relaxing with a cup of coffee. Create a free ad that’s visually appealing and engaging by getting started with a pre-designed template.

This is actually a great strategy, as it casts a wider net and opens up the possibility of reaching even more prospects where they already are. Your market research should give you the insight and confidence you need to choose the most effective platform to reach your target audience. You should also do some supplemental research on the costs, ROI, and benefits of certain ad platforms and methods. This should be based off of your buyer personas — semi-fictional representations of your ideal customer based on market research and real data about your existing customers.

Create a story where the brand’s product turns into a well-known character, and you’re halfway there. A catchy design can make the difference between a successful campaign and one that’s forgotten the next minute. Needless to say, the process of launching an ad on Google is different than on Bing.

A moody House of Hackney floral wall covering lines the dressing area, which leads to a powder room accented with a Kelly Wearstler’s Graffito II from Walnut Wallpaper. A black-and-white triangular mosaic tile floor by Artistic Tile from Mission Tile West puts a contemporary twist on the classic checkered pattern. A palette of whites, deep blues, and gold creates an elegant atmosphere in the formal living room, which was designed by Rachel Duarte. The designer established two seating areas within the space, including a cozy gathering spot with chaise longues that flank the original carved marble fireplace. The room’s coffered ceilings were enhanced with a faux-wood decorative painting by Jhon Ardilla. In Milan, a nostalgic wind blew through the showrooms, where Willy Rizzo and Josef Hoffmann would have felt very comfortable with a drink (probably champagne in a Lobmeyr glass).

The designer outfitted a door handcrafted in India with a vintage mirror to create a one of a kind headboard and bathed the space in deep emerald green. The glamorous touches continue in the ensuite bath, where Sabatella added a custom mirror-tiled tub that plays off the vintage French tile floor. Effective communication is the cornerstone of any successful collaboration. The best ad design services will maintain open lines of communication throughout the design process. They should be responsive to your feedback and able to articulate their creative decisions. Clear communication ensures that your vision is understood and that the final product aligns with your expectations.

Santicola and Monique Wood installed Caesarstone countertops fabricated by Carlito’s Way Stone to create a functional space for outdoor entertaining. Bursts of hot pink and apple green energize Steven Cordrey’s design for the home’s veranda. Hand-beaded light fixtures illuminate the seating areas, which feature tables and chairs from Janus et Cie’s Amalfi Coast outdoor collection. The event draws more than 25,000 guests each year and offers several dining spaces, including Roe Japanese Fusion, the Tudor Rose Bistro, and Wattle & Daub Tavern. The Shops at the Showcase offer an array of merchants, from handmade jewelry to artisanal chocolates, and are also home to the Shops’s Wine & Cheese Bar. Last week, editors from AD’s global editions gathered for Milan Design Week 2024—and even now, we’re feeling the electricity.

Creed Play First Concert in 12 Years: Photos, Video + Setlist

summer of 99 cruise

Scott Stapp and company rocked a 16-song set for the thrilled passengers. Full Circle, released in 2009, marked the band’s last album, and Creed stopped touring together in 2012. During the hiatus, Stapp released his second and third solo albums, while Tremonti has regularly released music as the leader of the collective Tremonti, among other side projects. Creed released four albums beginning with 1997’s My Own Prison, and helped define the mega-selling post-grunge rock movement of the late ‘90s. Singles like “One,” “Higher,” “With Arms Wide Open” and “My Sacrifice” crossed over from alternative radio to pop audiences, and with 1999 sophomore album Human Clay, Creed reached a commercial peak — the album has sold 11.7 million copies to date, according to Luminate.

SUMMER OF ’99 CRUISE will also feature an exclusive live Q&A with Creed open to all guests, activities with bands and podcast hosts, panels, autograph sessions, and a very special Y2K Countdown theme party. As if that weren’t enough, all guests will receive an Autographed Commemorative Item signed by Creed prior to the event. Following the historic announcement and immediate sell-out of Week 1, CREED has announced a second sailing of their immersive Nineties rock ‘n’ roll celebration at sea, Summer Of ’99 Cruise. The Summer Of ’99 And Beyond Cruise is highlighted by the GRAMMY® Award-winning band’s second public live performances in more than a decade. Presented by Sixthman, the leader in festivals and music cruises for more than two decades, Summer Of ’99 And Beyond Cruise – sails April 27-May 1, 2024 from Port Canaveral (Orlando) in Canaveral, FL to Nassau, Bahamas aboard Norwegian Jade. The new port of departure (Summer of ’99 Cruise sails from Miami, FL) was necessary to meet the unprecedented demand for another sailing of fans with CREED.

Pre-sale signups for the cruises are available now through July 26, with July 28 marking the public on-sale; more details can be found here. Stapp, Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips stopped touring together in 2012, after scoring smashes like “One,” “Higher,” “With Arms Wide Open” and “My Sacrifice”; their 1999 sophomore album, Human Clay, has sold 11.7 million copies to date, according to Luminate. In addition to the Creed reunion, Tremonti recently released a holiday album, Christmas Classics New & Old, and Stapp’s fourth solo album, Higher Power, will be released in March 2024. After plotting a 2024 reunion with their Summer of ’99 cruise, Creed has announced a 40-city North American tour, which will mark their first time hitting the road together in over a decade. Creed’s Summer of ’99 cruise boarded in Miami on Thursday (April 18th), and the reunited band didn’t waste any time delivering their first concert in 12 years.

When it was all said and done, the show proved to be a cathartic experience for both the fans and Creed themselves, especially Stapp. The crowd waited 12 years for this moment, and all of that energy was unleashed in every word that was sung back to the band. Sirius XM DJ Eddie Trunk will co-host both cruises alongside the trio from AXS TV's The Power Hour show — Matt Pinfield, Caity Babs and Josh Bernstein.

BEHIND THE MUSIC: Paramount+ To Premiere New Episodes of Iconic Docuseries On May 1st

The tour will take in 40 cities across the continent, and they are set to be the band’s first shows in 12 years. Heavy Consequence photojournalist Liz Ramanand is on the Summer of ’99 cruise, and captured photos and video of Creed’s first concert in 12 years. After setting sail from Miami, the Summer of ’99 cruise will visit Nassau, Bahamas, before returning to Miami on April 22nd. Among the other bands on the cruise are 3 Doors Down, Buckcherry, Tonic, Vertical Horizon, Fuel, and more.

Want to know what everyone in the music business is talking about?

The first sailing of CREED’s Summer Of ’99 Cruise heads to sea April 18-22, 2024 from Miami, FL to Nassau, Bahamas aboard Norwegian Pearl. In addition, Summer Of ’99 Cruise is now the top 3 among Sixthman’s all-time Pre-Sale Signups and Waiting List Signups for cruises of any kind. As noted, all reservations for Summer of ’99 Cruise are now completely sold out.

The band added a second cruise the following weekend, and both trips are sold out. In the middle of the tour, Creed will head to San Bernardino, Calif. to top the bill of the inaugural Summer of ’99 and Beyond Festival, which will corral the openers on various legs of the tour and welcome a few other special guests. 3 Doors Down, Daughtry, Finger Eleven, Fuel, Vertical Horizon, The Verve Pipe will join Creed on Aug. 31 at San Bernardino’s Glen Helen Amphitheatre. Five days later (April 27th), Creed will embark on the Summer of ’99 and Beyond cruise from Orlando. That lineup will feature Daughtry along with several of the bands from the first cruise. 3 Doors Down, Buckcherry, Tonic, Vertical Horizon, Fuel, The Verve Pipe, Tantric, Dishwalla, Louise Post (of Veruca Salt) and Nine Days have all been booked for the festival cruise, which is presented by Sixthman.

Full Circle (2009), released after a hiatus, bowed at No. 1 on the Top Rock, Hard Rock, and Alternative charts and No. 2 on the Billboard 200. With more than 53 million albums sold worldwide, CREED stands alongside iconic bands like Van Halen, Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica as one of an elite few hard rock outfits to earn RIAA Diamond-certified status, for more than 11 million sales of Human Clay in the United States. By entering my mobile number and checking this box, I authorize Sixthman to send me text messages using the mobile number provided and agree to the Terms & Conditions. If the mobile number box is left unchecked, then the guest will not receive SMS messages. Legendary rockers Creed have announced their long-awaited return with SUMMER OF ’99 – an immersive rock ‘n’ roll celebration at sea highlighted by the GRAMMY® Award-winning band’s first public live performances in more than a decade. While no other reunion dates, or recording plans, have yet been announced, Creed will take part in a live Q&A during the Summer of ’99 cruise that will be open to all attendees.

The performance marked Creed’s first concert since December 2012, when they wrapped up a tour in support of their 2009 album Full Circle, which came after their first reunion following their breakup in 2004. The first Summer of '99 cruise will be held from April in 2024, departing from Miami, Florida for Nassau, Bahamas aboard the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship. By popular demand, the reunited Creed have announced a second Summer of '99 cruise, dubbed Summer of '99 and Beyond, which will take place just a few days after the first at-sea excursion returns to port. SUMMER OF ’99 CRUISE guests will enjoy all the incredible amenities available aboard Norwegian Pearl, including fully stocked bars at (almost) every corner, tasty dining options, the Pool Deck (with multiple hot tubs), the Pearl Club Casino, Mandara Spa, Body Waves Fitness Center, Sports Court, and much more. The band’s lineup of Scott Stapp, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips will play two shows during the cruise, which will travel from Miami to the Bahamas between Apr. 18-22, 2024. Presented by Sixthman, the Summer of ’99 cruise lineup is also topped by 3 Doors Down, and includes Buckcherry, Tonic, Fuel, Vertical Horizon, The Verve Pipe, Tantric and Nine Days, among others.

Speculation that the multi-platinum rock group was planning a return really heated up when the band updated their social media profile pictures with a new logo earlier this month. A week later, this notion intensified when Creed released a video teaser, which stated, "Let's go back to the summer of '99," and featured a series of photos of the band's members throughout the years, including a new press shot that suggested a comeback was indeed in the works. In July, Creed announced their first shows together in 12 years as headliners of the Summer of ’99 cruise, setting sail from April 18-22, 2024.

The band – comprised of Scott Stapp, Brian Marshall, Scott Phillips, Mark Tremonti and touring guitarist Eric Friedman – performed a 16-track setlist for the attendees. ’ and followed that with fan favourites such as ‘Torn’, ‘My Own Prison’, ‘Weathered’ and ‘Faceless Man’. The 2024 Summer of ’99 tour, produced by Live Nation, kicks off on July 17, 2024, and will run through Sept. 28. While 3 Doors Down will be direct support on the majority of the tour, Daughtry, Switchfoot, Tonic and Big Wreck will join Creed on select dates, and Finger Eleven will open all dates on the reunion run. Fans who aren’t hitting the high seas with Creed can catch the band on their multi-leg North American reunion tour. A summer outing with support from 3 Doors Down and Finger Eleven will be followed by a fall jaunt featuring 3 Doors Down and Mammoth WVH.

Along the way, he’s assembled an amazing group of like-minded individuals to spread the word on some of the most unique people and projects on the pop culture landscape. Creed will reunite for their first shows in 12 years in 2024, when they set sail the Summer of ’99 cruise next April as headliners of the rock voyage, the band announced on Wednesday (July 17). It's official — Creed have reunited after teasing their comeback earlier this month. Their first live performance since 2012 is set to take place on the high seas on the band's own 2024 cruise festival, dubbed "Summer of '99," which features 3 Doors Down and a number of other era-specific groups for maximum nostalgia. Creed are also set to kick off a North American reunion tour later this summer.

UK sending long-range Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine, says defence minister Defence policy

storm shadow cruise missile

But in some strikes, they appear to have been launched alongside waves of Ukrainian kamikaze drones to increase the chances of success. It was rushed into service in time for the Gulf War, where it was found to be so accurate that in one attack, a Storm Shadow reportedly punched a hole in the side of a building and then another one followed through the same hole. On July 11, a senior Russian general, Lt Gen Oleg Tsokov, was reported killed when Storm Shadows hit a hotel housing Russian commanders in Berdyansk, on Ukraine's occupied southern coast. The aircraft that have delivered the Storm Shadow so far include the Eurofighter Typhoon, Rafale, Mirage 2000, and Tornado, so it will apparently add a new aircraft type after been adapted to planes in the Ukrainian inventory.

Operation in Ukraine has been "very difficult," Kremlin says

It’s unclear whether Ukraine has received fully capable Storm Shadows, or a reduced range model so as to adhere to the MTCR arms control regime, which ordinarily discouraged export of missiles with a range exceeding 190 miles. In the fighting around Kherson during Ukraine's counteroffensive last fall, Russia sustained and eventually withdrew its forces using one bridge and a ferry system. "You'd be surprised how many forces can be sustained with a fairly narrow pipeline when it comes to ground lines of communication," Kofman said. The Storm Shadow is also in service with the air forces of Egypt, India, Italy, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Storm Shadow: Ukraine’s newest weapon to defend against Russia’s invasion

With an extensive front like that in Ukraine, it's impossible for the Russian military "to not have ammo stored anywhere, or to not have vulnerabilities in command-and-control, or to not have to use bridges," Kofman said. "But you're not seeing nearly the amount of critical infrastructure strikes or strikes against the logistics command-and-control network that you saw when HIMARS was first introduced last summer." There have been concerns that the Storm Shadow missiles could be used to strike targets deep inside Russia’s internationally recognised borders. The White House has balked at supplying Ukraine with similar long-range ATACMS missiles, which can be fitted to the Himars systems. The Ukrainian air force had carried out several strikes, it said, including against a Russian electronic warfare unit.

What is a Storm Shadow missile? Who makes the cruise missiles and why the UK is sending them to Ukraine

A look at the Storm Shadow cruise missile Great Britain has announced it will provide Ukraine. The Ukrainian military says its troops are conducting "effective counterattacks" in the Bakhmut area after they inflicted "huge losses" on Russian forces Wednesday. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow would take an “appropriate” military response to any Storm Shadow missiles used by Ukraine. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said the missiles would give Ukrainians the “best chance to defend themselves” as Russia continues its “deliberate targeting of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, which is against international law”. "If we could strike at a distance of up to 300 kilometres, the Russian army wouldn't be able to provide defence and will have to lose," he told an EU meeting.

The following Monday, the Russian MoD claimed to have downed one of the missiles elsewhere in Ukraine. After a year of struggling with the range of its artillery and missiles in its bid to fend off Russia’s invasion, Ukraine’s military is getting a longer reach with the British announcement that it will supply Storm Shadow cruise missiles to the embattled country. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Missile Defense Project reports its actual range to be 400 km. Joint venture built by European missile-maker MBDA and based on the Apache runway-cratering missile. It and Germany’s KEPD-350 air-launched cruise missile are the most numerous European-built equivalents to the U.S.’s arsenal of Tomahawk land-attack missiles, which have much longer range and are primarily (but not exclusively) sea-launched.

US, UK, France Launch Joint Missile Strike on Syria

As CNN has reported, Ukraine's current maximum range on US-provided weapons is around 49 miles. Due to Storm Shadow’s considerable range, Ukrainian jets could release the missile from relatively safe airspace. That said, to delay/avoid detection by Russian ground-based radars and attack from an unpredictable angle, Ukraine may opt for launch from low altitude—even if that reduces the maximum range and requires getting closer. There may therefore still be some need to dodge patrolling Russian MiG-31 interceptors, and Su-35 fighters scanning from above and primed to launch very-long-range R-37M missile.

It employs imaging infrared seeker to compare the actual target area with stored imagery repeatedly until reaching the target. The Storm Shadow / SCALP is a long-range, air-launched, stand-off attack missile offered by France-based MBDA Systems primarily for the UK and French armed forces. The Storm Shadow's BROACH warhead features an initial penetrating charge to clear soil or enter a bunker, then a variable delay fuze to control detonation of the main warhead. Intended targets are command, control and communications centres; airfields; ports and power stations; ammunition management and storage facilities; surface ships and submarines in port; bridges and other high value strategic targets.

Russia's New Kh-69 Cruise Missiles Used in Latest Missile Strike on Ukraine - Kyiv Post

Russia's New Kh-69 Cruise Missiles Used in Latest Missile Strike on Ukraine.

Posted: Wed, 17 Apr 2024 07:00:00 GMT [source]

There have been reports of successful Storm Shadow strikes in the weeks since the attack on the Chonhar bridge, including the killing of a senior Russian commander and an attack on a Russian vehicle-repair depot in Crimea. Garton Ash lays out the warmongering rationale behind delivering long-range missiles—unlocking the potential of Ukraine’s anticipated counteroffensive, a bloodbath in the making. The navigation system of the missile includes inertial navigation (INS), global positioning system (GPS) and terrain reference navigation for better control over the path and accurate target strike. The Storm Shadow missile is designed to strike the targets with an enhanced accuracy, employing different navigation systems installed onboard. In February 2017, MBDA led the mid-life refurbishment of Storm Shadow / SCALP EG cruise missiles for the UK and French Ministries of Defence.

Storm Shadow / SCALP Long-Range, Air-Launched, Stand-Off Attack Missile

And while a Storm Shadow can go further and has a much larger warhead than a GMRL rocket, it’s also 4-5 times more expensive, so Ukraine will receive a far smaller number. That means each shot will have to count, and there won’t be an indefinite resupply of missiles, making avoiding interception even more pertinent. Western governments might see whether Middle Eastern Storm Shadow clients (Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE) are amenable to quietly selling back missiles in exchange for newly-built replacements later. Those sold to the Middle East are believed to be a downgraded variant with 180-mile range sometimes dubbed the Black Shaheen—still potentially useful for Ukraine’s purposes.

Theoretically, Ukraine could also cobble together means to ground-launch Storm Shadows, accepting a significantly reduced range. But because Storm Shadows don’t require fire control instructions from the launching fighter, they should be comparatively easy to add onto the Ukrainian Air Force’s Soviet warplanes. The armor-penetrating precursor blasts a hole into the target’s surface, allowing the larger main charge to pass inside the targeted structure before detonating—making BROACH effective against hardened targets like underground storage facilities and bunkers. But the real bullseye falls on Russia’s extensive military infrastructure on the Crimean Peninsula, including airbases and much of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. Russia had leased bases in that area from Ukraine for two decades, only for Putin to invade the entire peninsula in 2014. But since Ukraine began using the missiles in mid-May, "we've not seen tremendous impact on the Russian force," Kofman said, "and part the reason for that is the adaptations in the Russian military that were caused by the introduction of HIMARS last June."

Storm Shadow was successfully fired from the RAF’s Tornado GR4 aircraft during Operation Telic in 2003. The Storm Shadow can be integrated into Tornado GR4, Tornado IDS, Saab Gripen, Mirage 2000, Rafale, Eurofighter Typhoon and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) aircraft. In March 2021, the missile was launched by UK Royal Air Force’s Eurofighter Typhoon for the first time on operations against the Islamic State in Iraq. The missile is intended to strike high-valued stationary assets such as airbases, radar installations, communications hubs and port facilities. The Storm Shadow can engage the targets precisely in any weather conditions during day and night. The long range and low attitude combined with subsonic speed make the Storm Shadow a stealthy missile.

On Thursday morning, British defense secretary Ben Wallace told the House of Commons that the U.K. Had broken the long-range taboo by transferring “a number” of Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles, seen as a “proportionate response” to Russia’s sustained air attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine. Storm Shadow is officially advertised as having a range “exceeding 250km,” or 155 miles, with other figures (including some given by the president of France) suggesting it has a maximum range of 250, or even 350, miles.

Although the missiles are considered a category 1 weapon, and so there is a “strong presumption” that they will not be exported to other countries, officials pointed to the fact that an exception can be made “on rare occasions” where there is a demonstrable need. Ukraine has been gradually amassing western tanks and armoured vehicles as it seeks to build up a counterattack force of 12 brigades aimed at breaking through Russian lines and demonstrating that it could be possible for Kyiv to push the invaders out of the country. Although the White House said last month it would supply a cluster-munition version of ATACMs, it is not yet clear when they will be delivered. Hitting deeper against bigger logistics hubs and command points is now key to success for Ukraine, Mr Zagorodnyuk said. But Moscow quickly moved targets further back out of reach, and since then the front lines have been largely frozen.

Kyiv has most likely only received a few hundred missiles, and the aircraft launching them are vulnerable in the highly contested airspace over Ukraine. That raises questions about whether Ukraine's military can bring enough Storm Shadows to bear against targets that are hard to find or knock out. The Storm Shadow missile is programmed with every detail of the target and the path to be taken to reach the target prior to its launch. Once released from the aircraft, the missile follows a pre-programmed path at low level with the help of continuous updates from the onboard navigation system.

Russia has said it has shot down many missiles, but the claims have not been verified and overall Ukraine appears to be having a high degree of success. As well as being used by the RAF and the French, the missile is also in service with Italy, Greece, Egypt, India, Qatar and others. The Russian offensive is concentrated in four different parts of the Donetsk region, with the "fiercest battles" in the cities of Bakhmut and Mariinka, according to the Ukrainian military's General Staff. Two drones detonated and fell over a residential area in the region, Gladkov said. No casualties were reported, but two residential buildings and a car were damaged, he added. Ukraine’s military said Wednesday that Russian soldiers prevented Ukrainian employees of the occupied plant from evacuating Enerhodar – a nearby frontline town – with their families.

The UK will send more Storm Shadow long-range missiles to Ukraine as part of its single biggest military aid package to the country since Russia’s invasion, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said. Overall, Storm Shadow is a potent long-distance strike weapon Ukraine will have to employ judiciously for maximum effect—though even the likely modest number transferred to Ukraine will likely to cause anxiety to Russian logisticians, commanders, and air defense personnel. Fortunately for Ukraine, Storm Shadow donations are more likely to be scalable than the UK’s rare Challenger 2 tanks, as the missiles are also in France’s inventory—under the designation SCALP-EG—and Italy’s. On Monday, the Washington Post reported that the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) had issued a call to weapons manufacturers, on behalf of the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU), to supply missiles capable of striking Russian-annexed Crimea or cities deep inside Russia’s borders. Over £300 million in funding has been made available through donations from the UK, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, plus Iceland and Lithuania. The missile is fitted with a two-stage bomb royal ordnance augmented charge (BROACH) blast/ penetrator warhead.

9 things I wish I had known before taking a Galapagos cruise

cruise to galapagos

If you're used to mainstream cruising, Galapagos vessels won't be what you're accustomed to. During the hot, rainy season, which runs from December to June, the weather is warmer and cloudier, but the snorkeling and diving conditions are also better. It's an ideal time for anyone who doesn't mind heat but might want a bit more protection from the sun, particularly if they enjoy underwater sports. The Galapagos Islands are remote and largely undeveloped, so they're perfect for travelers who prefer destinations that are more difficult to get to or ones that aren't overcrowded with tourists. You might know the Galápagos are volcanic, but how exactly did they form and why did life come to flourish here? Here we consider how plant organisms helped turn barren, rocky islands into ecological havens.

National Geographic Islander II Ship Tour

On a 2023 Galapagos cruise, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, unique animal species, and endless opportunities for adventure. Explore this stunning archipelago of islands that has long been the focus of environmentalists and evolutionary science. Now home to throngs of spiky marine iguanas, giant turtles and blue-footed boobies, the islands are a haven for these creatures as well as visiting nature buffs. After all, where else can you laze beach side with a seal or kayak alongside inquisitive penguins? Our Galapagos Islands cruises mean you can see all this archipelago has to offer from the comfort of our well-appointed boats. Hurtigruten makes cruising the Galapagos Islands more affordable by waiving the single supplement on several of its Galapagos cruises.

cruise to galapagos

When to book a Galapagos cruise

ATMs are scarce in the capital city of Quito where I started my trip and almost nonexistent on the islands. Yet cash is king at small, family-owned businesses and when it comes to tipping. I had counted on withdrawing more dollars from ATMs as needed, but found myself rationing my bills instead. While there's a library on board, I found myself jealous of the younger kids who brought along checklist books and simple guides to keep track of wildlife.

Awe-Inspiring Destinations

Go on a snorkeling excursion and watch colorful schools of fish, giant sea turtles, and sea lions. Grab a pair of binoculars and observe Galapagos hawks soaring above the sky and giant iguanas sunbathing on the rocky shore. Take a family photo at the summit of a volcanic cliff, or pose next to a colorful flock of pink flamingos. Exceptions like Hurtigruten's four-day western offering allow passengers to complete the entire trip in seven days, from when they first leave home to when they return. For anyone wishing to make their adventure last longer, cruise lines will allow passengers to sail back-to-back voyages that string different itineraries together.

Some also offer the chance to tack on a pre- or post-cruise visit to the Choco Cloud Forest, about 3.5 hours from the center of Quito. In general, cruise lines will break the islands into north, south, east and west loops. The best way to choose between them is to decide which islands you'd most like to visit. Also sailing to the Galapagos for Celebrity are 48-passenger Celebrity Xpedition and 16-passenger Celebrity Xploration. Much smaller than Flora, they don't offer the same high-tech amenities like fast Wi-Fi and touch-screen in-cabin temperature controls. However, that's often just fine for adventurous travelers who know the focus is on the destination and not the ship.

A Typical Day in the Galapagos

Here you will only findinteresting and valuable information for your trip, leaving you in no doubt that it is the bestplace to disconnect while having a dream vacation. That’s how many people have enjoyed travelingwith us since 2020 and counting. The Galapagos is a region unlike anywhere else on Earth, which means a trip there is full of nuance. Beyond that, quick-drying clothing made from synthetic fabrics is best. You'll also need comfortable shoes, including hiking boots and water shoes that can get wet. (I recommend Keen-style sandals, water socks or Crocs.) Bring extra socks; merino wool works well to regulate temperature and keep you comfortable.

Swimming isn't allowed, but the peacefulness that will wash over you is worth the short trek. Along the way, you can climb a quick set of stairs for great views over the island. Many sailings also offer pre- and post-cruise hotel stays, usually in Quito but sometimes in Lima, Peru, with a Machu Picchu add-on.

Will there be a certified nature guide on board?

Many tourist boats in the area offer five- to seven-day all-inclusive itineraries that are strictly monitored by the national park officials. There are also cruises operating illegally, so you have to take care when choosing a tour. Before starting this adventure, I wasn't sure what to expect from a Galapagos trip. I'd seen photos from friends and fellow travel writers who had visited the islands. Still, pictures don't do justice to the varying hues of blue-footed booby feet, nor do they properly convey the stench of sea lion excrement that — in contrast to its producers — is decidedly not cute.

Only two of the rooms lack balconies, which means most accommodations offer fresh air. G Adventures runs a few ships in the Galapagos; your chosen itinerary will determine which ship you sail. Yolita, which has room for 16 people plus crew, features eight cabins, each with a queen bed or side-by-side twin beds. The newest ship sailing expedition cruises for Celebrity, 100-passenger Celebrity Flora is also the only ship in Celebrity's fleet built specifically to sail the Galapagos. Three other ships — Origin, Theory and Evolve — are luxury expedition yachts rented from Ecoventura, part of the Relais & Chateaux family of luxury brands. Each carries just 20 passengers in a plush, high-end atmosphere that contrasts beautifully with the Galapagos' rugged terrain.

However, if you are planning a trip to Galápagos as your sole destination, then we really recommend choosing an 8 to 15 day itinerary for your cruise. Because of the longer time you'll have in the islands, a cruise of this length will typically allow you to visit up to three times as many islands and visitor sites as a shorter trip. Get up close to endemic species like Darwin finches, blue-footed boobies, and Galapagos tortoises. Dive into the water for a glimpse at the islands’ incredible marine life. There’s no shortage of ecological wonders awaiting at the Galapagos Islands.

Due to our internal safety policy, our leaders are specifically prohibited from recommending or assisting with booking diving activities. With years of experience cruising in the Galapagos, our knowledgeable guides and crew are best placed to show you this incredible region. If you’re a certified scuba diver, a live-aboard dive boat might be for you.

Let our experts help you choose a cruise and boat that best fits the needs of your travel adventure. Discover the Galapagos Islands, one of the world's most famous and pristine natural laboratories, through excursions lead by expert Naturalist Guides appointed by the Galapagos National Park. They're eager to share a wealth of knowledge about the many historical and natural highlights of the Galapagos archipelago. Wi-Fi is not available on the boat at all whilst in the Galapagos Islands. There is limited access on the bigger islands of Santa Cruz, San Cristobal and Isabela and there may also be the occasional internet cafe for you to use if there is time. Some restaurants on the islands may already include a 10% service charge in the bill, in which case an extra tip isn't required.

That’s why we choose to give back to the communities we visit, carbon offset all our trips and take our social and environmental responsibilities seriously. These small boats have a unique hull design, like the dual parallel runners of a sled, that many believe makes catamarans more stable in the water. Personal suite attendants cater to your needs while experienced naturalists lead star-gazing sessions.

The yacht is also stocked with kayaks and paddleboards for guests to use. A visit to the Galapagos has its pros and cons, but from my experience, the former far outweighs the latter. Their chill attitudes, mixed with curiosity, meant I frequently had to move away from animals that were coming too close to me rather than the other way around. As we neared, the coloring of their feet became more evident, but so did the white hue that adorned the rocks — bird excrement.

There, you'll be assigned a dedicated guide who will help you plan your daily activities based on your interests and desired exertion level. Lindblad Expeditions, which has partnered with the National Geographic brand for several years, operates two vessels in the Galapagos. The first, National Geographic Endeavour II, has room for up to 96 passengers across 52 outside cabins, some connecting to accommodate groups. Sixteen-passenger Eden is also equipped with eight cabins, seven of which sleep two people in twin-bed configurations and one of which offers a queen bed. Treasure of Galapagos is a yacht-style motor catamaran that carries up to 16 travelers.

All travelers must also be accompanied by National Parks Guides who can help them navigate these largely undeveloped islands. Choose from three amazing vessels to experience these amazing islands. The luxurious 100-guest mega yacht Celebrity Flora®, acclaimed as best small ship, rivals any boutique resort—and with better scenery.

How to Become an Agent for Cruises: 9 Steps with Pictures

cruise ship travel agents

Not only should you interview prospective luxury cruise travel agents, but he or she should want to interview you as well. A good agent will want to talk with you about the sorts of travel experiences you've had -- ones that you've loved as well as the ones that have fallen flat. If the travel agent starts recommending cruise lines without getting to know you first, take that as a red flag and look elsewhere.

cruise ship travel agents

How to Become an Agent for Cruises

In addition to sharing their expertise, the agent may have negotiated group space at lower rates with the cruise line, which could save you money on the cruise fare. The agent might also have first access to sale prices because the cruise lines notify their agent partners and loyalty club members first before they announce a sale to the public. Some travelers prefer doing business with larger agencies that employ dozens or even hundreds of agents. While you'll build a relationship with a particular agent, some like the idea of having the heft of a large and influential player behind them.

Extra Perks

Once you've chosen your cruise and, with the agent's help, matched your style with your vacation goals, you've got to book the trip. Your agent will also be able to sort out travel insurance, if required, and will collect payment for the cruise (usually a deposit at the time of booking and the full amount 60 to 90 days before departure). In addition, the agent can help you with the rest of your travel plans, such as pre- or post-cruise stays, airfare and transfers.

Why you should book through a cruise travel agent

cruise ship travel agents

Become an agent for cruises by learning everything you can about cruise ships and destinations, practicing your sales techniques, and selling vacations. Our local travel agents near you are also very experienced, with many traveling around the world to the hottest vacation destinations. They also have developed special partnerships and business relationships with top travel providers that you will benefit from once you become the travel agent’s client.

How to Get the Best deal on a Cruise

They'll often have more complete knowledge of your choices than a generalist. For example, if you want to cruise one of Europe's rivers in an intimate riverboat, you might not want to book with an agent who specializes in selling holidays on 3,000-person mega-ships. Cruise lines will not talk to you if you have booked through a travel agent. This can be frustrating if your travel agent is out sick or on vacation, or if the travel agent has made a mistake and is not fixing it. As in all professions, some agents are more helpful and easier to work with than others.

Is there a difference between booking directly with the cruise line and booking with a travel agent?

Cruise specialists are also aware of more than one cruise line, and for avid or repeat cruisers, this can be especially useful. What we loved about the cruise line we sailed with when the kids were young, may not be the best fit years later. Explorethe latest travel news, advice, updates, upcoming exclusive deals and more. Cruise companies are using artificial intelligence (A.I.) in a wide array of applications, from itinerary planning to predictive sales tactics to supporting their decarbonization efforts. Cruise lines are building a plethora of new ships—and they’re counting on travel advisors to help fill them. We are a team of global travelers and cruise enthusiasts with several combined decades of experience in providing world-class luxury travel to our clients.

Questions to ask a cruise travel agent

The level of service and interaction you can expect to receive from a travel agent after booking your cruise varies significantly. Some travel agencies will simply send you a booking confirmation letter within a day or two of booking and a payment reminder as the final payment date nears. Others will send information about your cruise line, ports you're visiting, packing lists and tips for an enjoyable cruise.

The agent will keep you in his or her database, alert you to deals or sales and can even suggest future trip ideas. So, you've decided to go on a cruise -- perhaps your first venture on a vacation at sea -- and you're a little overwhelmed. You have to consider how much you're willing to pay, whether to book an inexpensive inside cabin or splurge on a suite, and which cruise line and ship are right for you. Add dinner seatings, shore excursions and cabin location to the list, and planning a relaxing getaway suddenly seems like a second job. Have you booked a cruise using a travel agent or directly with the cruise line?

Tips

You aren't just booking general passage on a ship, either, as you will be asked to pick a specific cabin and when you prefer to dine. Making a mistake in these categories can ruin your cruise experience, as there are such thing as "bad" cabins and dining times (think noisy or claustrophobic cabins, dinner at 8 p.m. with cranky children, etc.). One of the most important things to determine when vetting agents is whether this person's communication style meshes with yours. Are you the type that wants your agent to answer the phone on the first ring?

Oftentimes, a luxury cruise travel agent can find you discounted cruise fares or offer value-added perks you can't get from booking through the cruise line or an online booking site. Your agent might be able to find a lower cruise fare or get you an upgraded stateroom or suite for the same price as the entry-level cabin. He or she might have access to special discounted group rates or exclusive pricing that the lines only offer to their top agents. The travel agent has a top-down view of pricing and availability, and can identify the best deals and pass along that data to you. Good travel agents also watch for fare drops and do their best to snag you a refund or upgrade you to a better cabin/suite. Luxury cruise travel agents go above and beyond, and they do that by forming strong relationships with their clients.

Those databases can be a good place to find an agent if you haven't received a recommendation form a friend. Cruise lines that maintain online databases of agents specializing in their cruises include Azamara, Crystal Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Seabourn and Silversea. Alternatively, you can call your cruise line of choice to inquire if they have a list of recommended agents. If you'd like to book a cruise through a travel agent, you can pop into a downtown storefront or search for cruise sellers online. If you want to look for agents registered with travel organizations, here are some resources for finding agencies near you.

Along with group pricing, they might have special perks to offer like onboard spending money, prepaid gratuities, a free bottle of wine or comped dinner in a for-fee restaurant. Even if the price is the same, these additional perks are often where the savings come in. Prepaid gratuities, for instance, can save you hundreds of dollars, depending on how many people are in your cruise group.

Upon returning home from your cruise, some agents may reach out to see how the trip was; a rare few may even send you a welcome home gift. If this type of service is important to you, make sure to ask about it before booking. While the bulk of a travel agent's income comes from commissions paid by the cruise lines, most travel agents also charge a small service fee ($15 to $30) for their time and effort, though not all do.

Contrary to what you might expect, travel agents might actually be able to get you better deals than internet retailers or even the cruise lines themselves. The best travel agents have access to discounted group rates and exclusive cruise pricing that's not found anywhere else. In addition, agents occasionally give you extra value on your booking -- such as prepaid gratuities, a free bottle of Champagne or onboard credit -- to sweeten the deal. And if the price of your cruise drops after you book, a good agent will notice and refund you the difference in fare. Finally, as cruise lines pay agent commissions, you don't have to worry about paying extra for their planning services. A cruise travel agent will guide you through choosing your cabin and dining times, deposits and final payment, and options for shore excursions and specialty dining.

This is not necessarily a bad thing, but be aware if the agent seems to be putting you off the line you were originally considering, as this could be the reason. On the plus side, an agent who is a preferred supplier might have negotiated rates with the cruise line and be able to call in favors, such as that bottle of Champagne or a cabin upgrade. Going online to book an airline ticket or hotel stay is a familiar and fairly easy transaction.
